“Weiner is a spellbinding storyteller and her fascinating tale is utterly bewitching.”

In 1884, following the death of her husband and child, Sarah Winchester — heir to the Winchester rifle fortune — purchased an unfinished farmhouse in the San Francisco Bay Area. And then she started building: 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for 38 years. The resulting mansion, known as the Winchester Mystery House, is now a popular tourist attraction and reportedly one of the most haunted houses in America.

In her solo show Mystery House — part haunted-house tour, part memoir — Wendy Weiner guides the audience through this creation and the hidden history of the woman behind it, while interweaving her own stories of grief, love — and the absurdities of being a female writer in Hollywood.

And there may be a visitation from a ghost. You'll have to come and see.

Wanting to create an intimate and accessible theater experience, Wendy wrote Mystery House to be performed in private homes and alternative spaces. The 2023 production of Mystery House, directed by Ryan Amador, was performed in residences in Los Angeles and New York, and had an acclaimed, month-long run in a theater at the top of a turret at Scotland's Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
